Reducing loss of material through scaling when reheating steel

To reduce the formation of scaling when reheating steel, a coating has been developed that acts as an oxygen barrier. Synthesized through a successful chemical bottom-up process, the coating has defined characteristics, such as low coating thickness, good adhesion, and application properties. With this coating, a reduction in scaling up to 80 % serves to increase material efficiency.

The scaling which does form is also more even and easier to remove. As a result, fewer scaling-related surface defects occur and reduced tool wear is achieved.
