Overspray

Atomization during the spraying application results in only part of the applied coating substance reaching the substrate or item that is to be painted. The share that is lost due to air rebound effects and spraying past the object is referred to as overspray.

Loss of material through overspray is dependent on substrate geometry, the application technology and how it is handled. Overspray cannot be completely avoided. However, the loss of material can be significantly reduced via the latest low-pressure spraying processes (HVLP) or through electrostatic-supported processes.
